Business leader looking over a city with digital systems

About S3 Group

20+ years of helping businesses adapt and thrive through every technology wave.

From the early days of the internet to today's AI era, we help SMEs, enterprise organisations and solo operators turn technology into practical systems that improve how the business works.

About S3 Group

Helping businesses adapt to technology change since 2004

S3 Group was founded in 2004, during the first major internet adoption wave for SMEs.

Back then, many businesses thought going online meant building a website. In reality, the internet changed how businesses found customers, handled enquiries, sold products, managed data, communicated with staff, delivered services and competed.

For more than 20 years, we have helped businesses adapt to technology change.

Technology only matters when it improves the business

The common thread has always been practical business improvement.

A website, CRM, dashboard, form, automation or AI tool is not valuable because it exists. It is valuable when it helps the business capture more revenue, reduce operating cost, improve margin, serve customers better, or reduce unnecessary dependence on the owner.

That is the lens we bring to the current AI wave.

The AI wave is an operating-model shift

Many SMEs are still held together by inboxes, spreadsheets, manual handovers, undocumented decisions, fragmented systems and key people carrying too much operational knowledge in their heads.

Adding more tools on top can create small wins, but rarely creates real leverage.

Today, we help businesses rethink how work should happen first, then build the practical systems around it.

Built for SMEs, trusted by enterprise and operators

Our work has included websites, ecommerce systems, online marketing infrastructure, internal business systems, workflow systems, custom software, digital products, marketplaces, platforms and automation.

We have worked with large organisations and recognised brands, including McDonald's, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Daikin Australia, while also supporting hundreds of SMEs, founders, solo operators and owner-led businesses.

Different businesses. Different stages. The same outcome: practical systems that improve how the business works.

Meet Our Principal, Jonathan Chak

Jonathan Chak

Founder, operator and systems builder

Jonathan Chak is the Founder and Director of S3 Group. He founded the company in 2004 and has spent more than 20 years helping businesses adapt to new technology waves, from early internet adoption and ecommerce to software, automation and AI-enabled operations.

Apart from helping other businesses through S3 Group, Jonathan has also built his own ventures across software, ecommerce, marketplaces, hospitality and cross-border platforms. Some failed, one was sold, and all of them taught practical lessons about sales, staffing, customer behaviour, cashflow, operations, adoption risk and execution.

That hands-on experience is important. Jonathan has not only advised businesses from the outside. He has also carried the risk of building, funding, running, fixing and exiting businesses himself.

Today, he brings that operator's lens to SME systems work: helping business owners identify where revenue is leaking, costs are rising, staff are stuck, and the owner is still carrying too much of the operating knowledge.

Commercialisation and innovation experience

As a commercialisation advisor, Jonathan assessed more than 500 MVP Grant applications at Jobs for NSW and advised more than 190 innovative companies through the Australian Government's Accelerating Commercialisation programme.

Across government grant and commercialisation work, he has helped SMEs and innovation-led companies secure more than $10 million in non-dilutive government funding, supporting projects across software, AI, deep tech, advanced manufacturing, medtech, cleantech, fintech, agritech and education.

He has also mentored more than 1,000 founders, entrepreneurs, researchers and startup teams across Australia's innovation ecosystem, including through UNSW Founders, university spinout pathways, accelerators and founder programmes. He has also taught strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney Business School.

This experience gives Jonathan a practical lens on what separates interesting ideas from executable businesses, and what separates activity from real commercial progress.

Current focus

Today, Jonathan's focus is helping SME owners find and fix the recurring work that leaks revenue, increases labour cost, reduces margin or keeps coming back to the owner.

His belief is simple: the next advantage for SMEs will not come from using more AI tools. It will come from redesigning the business so people, systems and AI can work together with less friction, better data, clearer decision-making and stronger accountability.

Start with one problem that keeps costing you money.

If leads are being missed, invoices need chasing, staff keep asking for answers, admin keeps growing or software has not solved the mess, bring that problem to the call.

We will help you work out what is really happening, what should change first, and whether the fix should involve better procedures, workflow redesign, automation, system integration, existing tools or new capability.

Recover missed revenue. Reduce unnecessary admin cost. Improve margin.
